Who knew that basketball needed an interactive led floor?

Asb has become a leader in the production of Squash Court and maintained this position for decades, including an introduction in the mid -2000s of a new configuration of surface and glass -based glass fences that has become the standard for Squash competitions all over the world.

Christof joined the company to happen to his father as CEO in 2012 and Asb started to focus on LED surfaces. The first product of this type was a simple floor display called “Asb Multisports” which could go from a brand for various hardcourt sports such as basketball, volleyball and handball. The company has shifted attention to obtain the official approval from the FIBA, the world’s basketball body, during the Covid-19 pandemic, and managed to us in 2022 when the FIBA ​​changed the rules for the official admissible game surfaces to include glass in addition to traditional wood. The first official Fiba event of Asb was the Under 19 women’s World Cup in 2023.

Recent clients installations include European basketball teams Bayern Munich and Panathinaikos, both playing all their games at home during the 2024-25 season on the ASB courts; NBA All-Star Weekend 2024 in Indiana, which has used ASB for various events including the crushed and three-point competitions; The “Big Blue Madness” event of the University of Kentucky in 2024; In addition, several other teams or collegiate structures in multiple sports.

The opportunities for commercial involvement and fans abound this technology, which opens the court as a massive empty canvas. In part, the surface appears just like a traditional parquet reproduction surface, with realistic images of wooden panels. Suddenly, however, it can turn into something else.

When free shots are shot during a basketball game, for example, most players tend to spend 45 to 60 seconds standing on one side of the field. The ASB clients can use the space available on the other side of the floor to show a graphics on the shooting percentage of the shooter, with the logo of an accompanying brand partner right next to it.

“This surface has allowed us to completely reinvent the way we connect with fans and the way we offer value to our commercial partners,” tells me Thanos Bichtas, head of the marketing of Panathinaikos. “Whether it is intros dynamics with personalized court animations or live visual effects that react to great shows, now we offer a level of visual narrative that transforms the arena into an interactive experience.

Bichtas says that the court has become a platform of great impact for the visibility of the brand. “And above all, it does not interrupt the experience of the fans; it improves.”

Exercises on the floor

During my visit, I was shown to me a suite of activities for children who could transform these courts into educational centers during school hours, from various scale of dinosaurs and marine creatures to a feature that allows children to cross the labyrinths. Bichtas says that Panathinaikos has already used his ASB field to host a series of events, from the brand’s activations to basketball skill clinics for fans, especially to those of people. Christof, go-kart enthusiast, imagines an entire track installation on one of the Corti of Asb in the near future.

“If you look at the infrastructure of an arena, it costs about 250 to 350 million euros somewhere,” says Babinsky. “If you put our floor in there, this is about 1 % more than the overall budget. But having that floor in there will allow the Arena to be used much more often, because suddenly you don’t have a used arena for a game at home every two weeks. No, you can have children on Monday morning.”
