Maruti Baleno was tested by Bharat Ncap in two different configurations: one with 2 airbags and the other with 6 airbags. While both variants have shown dignified safety performance, the 6 aerbes version went slightly better in terms of protecting adult occupants.

In the 6 -aerbag variant, Baleno scored 26.52 out of 32 points for the protection of adult occupants, compared to 24.04/32 in the 2 ARIBA variant. The improvement came mainly from the lateral impact performance, in which the 6-Airbag version scored 14.99/16 in the deformable side mobile barrier test, compared to 12.50/16 in the 2 aribag version.

For the protection of children’s occupants, both variants obtained an identical score at 34.81 out of 49. The dynamic performance for children’s mannequins were classified in a similar way and both variants were equipped with isofix anchors on the rear external seats.

The 6 aerbag variant is also provided with greater lateral protection thanks to the inclusion of tent and chest airbags, which are absent in the 2 aribag model. ESC (control of electronic stability), pedestrian protection measures and safety belts reminder are standard in both variants.

The tests were conducted on AGS finishes (automatic transmission) and MT (manual transmission) of both models, with tests completed in 2024 and the results published in 2025. Both vehicles had a test weight of 1220 kg.

While the results of the Baleno crash test highlight the improvements added by Airbag Extra, buyers are encouraged to opt for the highest variants that offer more complete safety features. Maruti Suzuki has announced that their entire range of cars will get 6 standard airbags. Bharat’s NCAP evaluation clearly differs from the protection levels offered by different levels of equipment, underlining the importance of the selection of variants when making a purchase decision.
