TVS Brands Electra Name for Norton Motorcycles

Electra Name was iconic in the motorcycle sector as it was associated with Royal Enfield Bullet, which is the longest production motorcycle in the world. Now, Norton Motorcycles owned by the TVS engine has applied for a brand for the name Electra in India. This could mean many things for Indian and global markets. Let’s take a closer look.

TVs TVS name Electra

One of the main 2W and 3W Indian manufacturers, TVS Motor, has acquired Norton Motorcycles, a famous British motorcycle brand with a rich heritage. This acquisition took place in 2020 and there have been multiple speculations and rumors about a great return for the Norton brand and the aggressive expansion in traditional segments for the maximum possible volume.

In 2023, Norton asked for a brand named “Norton Combat” in India, among others. These include Dominator, Commando, Atlas, Manx, Nomad, Navigator and Ranger. Now, TVS has submitted a brand application for another name in India, which is “Norton Electra”. The application was presented in October 2024 and the status affirms “formality CHK PASS”. It should be noted that Norton had presented an Electra name in 2020, but had abandoned him later.

At the time of writing this article, it is not clear whether this will be an ice or electric motorcycle, as the name Electra suggests. However, TVS has confirmed that there will be up to six Norton motorcycles to be launched in the next three years. These could be through multiple movement classes to establish diversity.

What to expect?

More recently, the CEO of TVS Motor, Southarshan Venu, has confirmed that the company will produce new Norton and Apache models based on the new 450cc platform, developed together with BMW Motorrad. The first bike to present this new engine is probably BMW 450 GS, which has been married test in India.

This new 450 cc engine will do duties in multiple motorcycles for BMW Motorrad, TVS and Norton motorcycles and all will be produced here in India. In particular at the Tvs structure of Hosur, Tamil Nadu.

Staying with Norton, we can expect classy retro motorcycles with an electric name or combat name with this 450 cc parallel two -cylinder engine, among others. In the future there may be single cylinders for offers 350cc and 450cc offers from Royal Enfield, Triumph’s 400 cc offers and even KTM range 390, to a certain extent.
