This is just one of Many apparently personal conversations which can be seen publicly on Meta Aia chatbot platform that also acts as a social feed e Launched in April. Inside the Meta Ai app, a “Discovery” card shows a temporal sequence of the interactions of other people with the chatbot; A short scrolling on the Meta Ai website is a vast collage. While some of the queries and responses highlighted are harmless – Trip itineraries, tips on recipes – the countries reveal places, telephone numbers and other sensitive information, all linked to users’ names and profile photos.
Calli Schroeder, senior consultant of the electronic privacy information center, said in an interview with Wired that he had seen people “Share medical information, information on mental health, domestic addresses, even things directly related to pending judicial cases”.
“All this is incredibly worrying, both because I think it indicates the way people are misunderstanding what these chatbots do or what they are, and also misunderstanding how privacy works with these structures,” says Schroeder.
It is not clear whether the users of the app are aware that their conversations with the Meta IA are public or that users are trolling the platform after the stores have started to report. Conversations are not public by default; Users must choose to share them.
There is no shortage of conversations between users and chatbots to the destination that seem destined to be private. A user asked the chatbot to provide a format to stop the lease of an tenant, while another asked him to provide an academic notice that provides personal details including the name of the school. Another person asked the sister’s responsibility in potential tax fraud of the companies in a specific city using an account that is linked to an Instagram profile that shows a name and surname. Someone else asked him to develop a declaration of character to a court that also provides a myriad of personal identification information both on the alleged criminal and the user himself.
There are also many cases of medical questions, including people who disclose their struggles with intestinal movements, who ask for help with their hives and ask themselves for a skin eruption on their internal thighs. A user told the destination of their neck surgery in Meta and included their age and employment in the prompt. Many, but not everyone, the accounts seem to be linked to an individual’s public Instagram profile.
The spokesperson for Meta Daniel Roberts wrote in a declaration by e-mail to Wired that the chat of users with destination AI are private unless users cross an in several phases to share them on the discovery feed. The company did not answer questions on which mitigations are underway for the sharing of personal identification information on the Meta Ai platform.
