Mother Sati’s head fell here
Surkanda Shaktipeeth also shows the hills of Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, Yamunotri etc. It is said that Indra Dev, the king of heaven, did penance at this place, due to which this mountain is called ‘Surkut’ mountain. This temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga and the idol of Goddess Kali is installed here. It is believed that Goddess Sati’s head fell here, so earlier it was named Sirakanda, which later became famous as Surkanda Devi Temple.
Famous named Surkanda
Mahant Mahavir Lekhwar of Surkanda Mata Shakti Peeth said that it is believed that when King Daksha organized a yagna in Kankhal, he invited all the deities in it, but did not invite Lord Shiva. Sati, the daughter of King Daksha and wife of Lord Shiva, sought permission from Shiva to go to the yagna. Sati went to the yagna even after Shivji refused. Hearing the derogatory things towards Lord Shiva, Sati jumped into the Yagya Kund. When this happened, Shiva got angry and took Sati’s body and rotated around the Himalayas. In order to calm Shiva’s anger, Lord Vishnu cut Sati’s body from the Sudarshan Chakra. Mother Sati’s head fell on the Surkut mountain, which later became famous as Siddhpeeth Surkanda.
Surkanda Siddhapeeth associated public recognition
Another folk belief associated with Surkanda Siddhpeeth is that this temple was founded by Anandu or Anand Singh Jaddhari centuries ago. At that time, the people of the mountain were coming to Dehradun “Mal” on the back that they found a helpless old lady on the way, he said that take me with them too, but no one agreed. Anand Singh was of a rooted kindness, he placed the helpless old lady on his back on his back and walked forward with courage. After walking far away, when he stayed for some rest for some time, the old woman became intrusive. On reaching home, Anand Singh Raddhari was seen by the old woman in the dream as a goddess and said that you digging in the highest edge, excavation revealed the self -styled divine rock at that place, which was established by the residents of the village of Jotdhar.
All sins are destroyed by mere philosophy
Mother said that the rooted dynasty will be called my Maiti. Since then, the rooted people have been managing and serving the temple in the form of Goddess Maiti. Pujaldi is a priest of the Brahmin mother of the village’s Lekhwar caste. They have been doing the work of worshiping the mother since time immemorial and the people of Malkot are called the maternal uncle of the goddess. Sri Surkanda Temple is the only Siddhpeeth where Ganga Dussehra festival is celebrated. Although devotees see the mother throughout the year and get virtuous fruits, but on the occasion of Ganga Dussehra and Navratri, the special significance of the mother’s darshan has been told. Darshan of the mother destroys sins and wishes are fulfilled.
