Starbucks is introducing a new artificial intelligence assistant called Green Dot Assist in 35 stores this month to help bartenders work faster and efficient. According to a CNBC report, the assistant is built using the Opeeni Microsoft Azure platform and is part of the company’s plan to improve the service and reduce waiting times in its coffee. The AI ​​tool was presented during the Starbucks leadership experience in Las Vegas, where over 14,000 managers of North American shops gathered. A complete implementation in the United States and Canadian stores is expected in the tax year 2026, starting from this autumn.
“It is only another example of how innovation technology is entering the service of our partners and making sure that we are doing everything possible to simplify operations, make their job only a little simpler, perhaps a little more fun, so that they can do what they do best,” said the head of the Starbucks Deb Hall Lefevre technology to the publication.

Help bartenders work in an intelligent wayGreen Dot Assist will be available on a tablet behind the counter, allowing bartenders to type or speak their questions in a simple language. Instead of looking through manuals or online guides, staff can now quickly find answers on recipes of drinks, fixing equipment and more.

Future plans for artificial intelligence include automatic signaling of technological problems and changes to the program when an employee is absent. These updates aim to support the goal of the Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol to reduce service times less than four minutes per order.


The Starbucks partnership with Microsoft arrives at a time when many companies, such as Walmart and JpMorgan, are adopting to generative to improve operations and reduce costs. However, artificial intelligence tools can sometimes provide incorrect answers – a problem known as “hallucinations”. Lefevre said that the Starbucks system is designed with guarantees to ensure that the information they provide is accurate.

Other updates shown to the event included a new system of improvement points and improved espresso machines. According to Lefevre, expert barists are also learning to use the new system in less than an hour. It can also suggest repeated orders for faithful customers, helping Starbucks to report a more personal experience in his shops.
