With the increase in fuel costs, the automotive industry is moving its gaze towards electrification. While fully electric vehicles are growing in popularity, hybrid engine could be the perfect arrest gap between ice and EV. Savwipp (Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt Ltd) is also exploring the hybrid options and could be launched around the year 2028. Take a look at the possibilities.
Skoda and Volkswagen hybrid
According to a recent India truck report, the Skoda and Volkswagen hybrid models could be launched around the year 2028. It is likely that the company electrifies its current portfolio to expand its customer base and push sales on the market, which is currently in the lower part of the spectrum.
This transition to the hybrid engine could be a future preparation to meet the next CAFE 3 standards. In addition, this passage to hybrid technology will act as a stop-gap between ice engines and fully electrical engines. If this hybrid configuration is PHEV type (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle), it certainly offers the best of both worlds.

According to reports, Savwipl could design a dedicated platform which is the IMP21 platform in code internally. IMA is for the main platform of India and it is hypothesized that it is a derivative of CMP, which is the main platform of China. This next architecture is said to be compatible with ice engine, fully electric and hybrid.
With IMP Skateboard, Skoda Auto and Volkswagen probably introduce a high level of localization to satisfy cost constraints. Which is an important strategy in a market attentive to costs such as India. This hybrid platform should achieve the wider long -term electrification objectives of the company.
What to expect?
Skoda and Volkswagen hybrid models can be expected to be based on current offers such as Slavia and Virtus Sedans together with compact Kushaq and Taigun SUVs. There is a probability that the more the company launch more premium offers with hybrid engine above the current ones.

Starting now, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder are the only compact SUVs to offer hybrid engines, while Honda City and: Hev remains the only sedan. The 2nd generation Kia Seltos and the third generation Hyundai Creta should share a hybrid engine in the coming years and Renault Nissan Alliance is also working on hybrid engines to go to Duster and its Nissan counterpart.
