The nifty 50 opened at 24,956.65 against its previous close of 25,001.15 and dropped 1 per cent to an intraday low of 24,765.75.
Around 9:50 AM, The sensex was 709 points, or 0.86 per cent, down at 81,468, while the nifty 50 was trading 206 points, or 0.82 per cent, lower at 24,796.
