Qi2 Wireless charge: everything you need to know (2025)

Other Qi2 improvements make the Qi include the widest compatibility of the device (from tablets to wearable devices), adaptive charging so that the chargers can speak with devices to provide the energy they need instead to have a fixed power and greater safety with better heat management and survey of foreign objects.

What is Qi2 25W?

The first important update for the Qi2 standard is Qi2.2.1, which the WPC is branding as Qi2 25W. Even if it does not do anything to clarify the wireless charging scene, it is set to allow a series of improvements:

  • Faster charging speed up to 50 wattsAlthough it seems that 25 watts will be the norm for now.
  • Improved magnetic alignmentSo phones can load to maximum efficiency and speed and different devices will be compatible with all Qi2 25W accessories.
  • Compatibility backwardsIt means that Qi2 25W devices work with the Qi2 and Qi chargers, although at slower speeds.

The WPC says that so far 14 products are certified, including 3 in 1 charger, electric banks and car media, from Anker, Aukey, Baseus, Belkin, Ugreen and Scosche, with hundreds of others in the tail of the certification. More interesting, the WPC states, “in addition to Apple iPhone, the main Android smartphones will join the Qi2 ecosystem for the first time with this launch”. But we still don’t know which iPhone models or Android phones refer.

Unfortunately, there are not many Qi2 certified phones yet. Here is the complete list:

The phones ready for Qi2 are able to load at Qi2 speed but are missing magnetic array, so they must be coupled with cases ready for Qi2 with magnets in them to act as qi2 phones. Here is the list:

Expect a delayed wave of Qi2 devices

Before a device can bear the Qi2 or Qi2 25W logo, the wireless energy consortium must certify it in its independent laboratories. The MPP Qi2 specification includes the charging speed, the magnet’s resistance and the compatibility of the device. The Qi2 logo promises that the device meets the demanding standards of the WPC. But, as with the original Qi standard, devices are also available that have not passed through the official Qi2 certification process.

Apple’s iPhone 12 range supports Qi2 and accessories producers such as Anker, Belkin, Nomad, Mophie, Baseus and many others have released Wireless Qi2 charger and electric banks. You can expect a wave of Accessories and Telephones Qi2 25W to be launched later and we plan that some Android manufacturers jump completely on board by the end of the year or at the beginning of 2026. The phones generally have a two -year delivery time, so that they can explain the delay in the adoption of Qi2. The WPC hopes that Qi2 unifies the wireless charging and will finally provide the universal global standard that we were waiting for, but we no longer feel so optimistic.
