Alongside collaborative initiatives to combat and close these harmful uses (such as IETF Detection of unwanted position trackersO Dult, standard), tracker producers are launching the script, transforming the technology that has been used to monitor women from their will in the technology that protects them.
In mid -July, based in Seattle Pebblebee has announced a new free SOS safety function, called I notifyFor its $ 35 Bluetooth tracker to clip which, like the rest of its universal formation, can be set with the networks found by Apple or Google, is made with recycled plastic of about 30 % and runs on a rechargeable battery, with 12+ months between the USB-C accusations.
When multi-pressure (multiple pressures), the clip can trigger an alarm of siren, flash the LED lights and automatically send a text notification of SMS text to a “safety circle” contact that you have prepared in the Pebblebee app.
For the kind granting of Peebblebee
It is easy to set the contact in the app and a long pressure on the device interrupts the siren and LEDs, even if it is unlikely that it will disturb or accidentally impose it. The siren of the clip is not strong and the lights do not cover a lot of range of a dedicated personal alarm, but they are sufficient to warn passers -by when walking at night. Also, the Pebblebee website states: “The warning feature including the siren, the strobe and the first contact of the security circle are and will always be completely free.”
We tested the SOS system and worked without a hiccup. Our security circle companion received a text saying: “Urgent: Sophie activated a Pebblebee notice. Please check -in immediately” with a link to the correct position through Google Maps. Search the “As Safe brand” button in the app and/or in the long pressure on the clip sends a follow-up text to say “Sophie has deleted their Pebblebee notice” with the last position connection.
Now, however, Pebblebee is adding a paid subscription option, called Live warningwhich offers a security circle of a maximum of five contacts to receive the SOS text notification when activated through the clip, as well as monitoring the live position for these contacts, for $ 3 per month or $ 26 per year. There is also a new silent mode, which sends the notice without the siren and LEDs, both for free users and for a fee: useful, although we have not yet had the opportunity to test this or the new position in real time.
