A new crossover has been spied on abroad that resembles a Hyundai version of Kia Soul compared to its side silhouettes, but has an inclined hood as on a sedan. However, the badge on the wheels has the Hyundai logo and the interiors of this vehicle have the i20 brand on the seats, suggesting that this could be an i20 next generation.
I20 is an elegant and aerodynamic premium sedan, while this new test mule has a square silhouette with sharp and angular doors together with the coating of the circle of wheels as on a crossover. So, Hyundai SUV-Fying i20 sedan i20? Or is there more in this test mule than what the eye meets? Let’s take a closer look.

New crossover Hyundai spy
It is possible that Hyundai may be the i20 sedan for enhanced sales and volumes. Mitsubishi Eclipse, which is a Crossover SUV today, was once a sporty one. However, i20 is part of the Hyundai sedan range, including i10 and i30, which is very likely to remain as a sedan.
There is a probability that this vehicle is something else, but it could share the same places as i20 and therefore the coating that reads i20. Test mules usually transport components and gear equipment for the early stages. This can also be a conscious step to hide its true identity and prevent early losses.

What could be?
Although it is not confirmed, this test mule can be a prototype of the next i20 size electric crossover of Hyundai BJ1. This is the result of Hyundai and Kia progress in electric vehicles and offers of the mass market offers at affordable prices to expand their presence in the world of electric vehicles. Ask 17 -inch alloy and Pirelli tires justify this being BJ1.
Another possibility is that this particular test mule could be a version of Bayon SUV in India that is also based on the i20 sedan. Hyundai has sold Indian versions or specific versions of the India of their vehicles and the same is probably the case of Bayon, which is assumed for the launch in India.

We saw this strategy at stake when Hyundai launched Exter in India instead of Casper, as initially hypothesized. If this test mule is the specific Bayon of India to compete with Maruti Suzuki Fronx that has obtained many sales since it was launched, it could be launched in 2026 or at the beginning of 2027.
