Territorial army: What is the Territorial Army?
The Territorial Army (TA) is a voluntary, part -supporting organization of the Indian Army. It was established on 9 October 1949. It is known as India’s Second Line of Defense. This organization supports the army during war, natural disasters and national crises. The purpose of its establishment is to assist the regular army in the Territorial Army (TA). Engineers, signals, medical and other units are included. It includes regular soldiers as well as volunteers, who participate in training and service for a few months in a year. In the Territorial Army, any Indian citizen of 18 to 42 years of age can be recruited, which is physically and mentally fit. In this recruitment is written, the test, listness test and interview are on the basis of interview. The Wars of 1962, 1965, and 1971 have contributed to the Kargil War.

Neeraj Chopra has been awarded the rank of Honorary Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army. This appointment has been made under Para 31 of Territorial Army Regulations 1948. This information has been given by Major General GS Chaudhary, Joint Secretary of the Department of Defense Ministry.

Neeraj Chopra in Indian Army: Neeraj is Naib Subedar in the army
Neeraj Chopra entered the Indian Army as Naib Subedar on 26 August 2016. It is a junior commissioned officer (JCO) rank in Rajputana Rifles (4 Rajrif). He was promoted as Subedar in 2021 and Subedar Major in 2024 for his achievements.
Now he has been nominated as an honorary lieutenant colonel in the Territorial Army. Now he will get the equivalent honor of a commissioned officer. Does Neeraj Chopra have to undergo training?
Since Neeraj is given an honorary rank, he does not need to take active military training in the Territorial Army. This rank is symbolic and is free from active military duties. Therefore, Neeraj will not need to participate in military operations, training camps or regular TA duty.

How much does Neeraj Chopra get salary?
Neeraj Chopra is the Subedar Major in the Indian Army, then he gets a pay level 8 salary according to the 7th Pay Commission. His basic salary is ₹ 47,600- ₹ 1,51,400 per month. Apart from this, they also get ₹ 5,200 per month Military Service Pay It is a 50% dearness allowance (DA) of the basic salary. Similarly, house rent allows up to 8-24%.
