‘We were never close friends’
Arshad Nadeem won a gold medal at the Paris Olympics last year while Chopra topped the podium in the Tokyo phase in 2021. Neeraj told reporters at the press conference, ‘First of all I would like to clarify that I (with Nadeem) is not a very strong relationship. We were never close friends. But due to this reason (tension on the Indo-Pak border), the conversation between us will not be the same as before. But if someone talks to me with respect, then I also talk with respect. We have to talk as a player. I have some good friends in the sports community around the world who are not only in a spear throw but also in other sports. If someone talks to me respectfully, I will also talk to him with full respect.

‘Javelin throw has a very small community’
Haryana star athlete Neeraj Chopra said, “There is a very small community in the javelin throw and everyone is competing for their country and everyone wants to give their best.” The Paris Games silver winner Star had earlier said that he was very sad after Nadeem was invited to compete in the tournament held in his honor and questioned him and his family’s honesty in a derogatory post on social media. Chopra then clarified that invitations for NC Classic were sent a day before the Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people were killed.
