The Moon may be 40 million years old with the previous estimate. This has been revealed by the analysis of the crystals brought from the moon. Astronaut of Apollo Chandrayaan brought it to Earth in the 1970s. These crystals have also been analyzed earlier. Its oldest crystal age has been revealed to be 4.46 billion years. In the previous estimate, it was reported to be 4.52 billion years old. This was done by researchers from Field Museum and University of Glasgow Study Geochemical Perspectives Letters are published in the journal. The Professor of the University of Glasgow and the lead author of this study, Jennika Greer said, “It is surprising that we have the oldest crystal in the moon so far. It is an important point about the earth. When you know how old something is, you can get a better understanding of what has happened in its history.” This discovery has been done in a new way called Atom Prom Tomography. In this, a laser is used to remove the atoms from crystals. Analysis of atom-by-atom makes researchers easier to count how many atoms have suffered radioactive damage in the moon’s crystals.

Scientists say that from a more accurate age, they can get more information about the emergence and history of the earth along with the moon. In March this year, a new astroid near the Earth has been discovered. It has been considered a ‘Quasi Moon’ or ‘Quasi Satellite’. It revolves around the Sun in the same period as the Earth. It has been called FW13. Along with circling the sun, it also revolves around the earth.

The Live Science report stated that the diameter of this moon is 3,474 kilometers and it is 36,400 km away at its nearest point while circling the earth. It was discovered by Pan-Starrs Observatory in March. After this, its presence was confirmed by telescope in Hawaii, US and two Observatory in Arizona. After this, the Minor Planet Center of the International Astronomical Union, which nominated new planets and other astronomical things, has included it in the official list.
