According to archaeological experts, the name ‘Korba’ has been taken under the name of ‘Korwa’, a protected tribe here. The hill Korwa tribe is considered to be the real soul of Korba. According to the information, the industrial development of Korba started when the first power plant was set up here. After this, Korba was made a major center of energy with the arrival of big companies like NTPC and Balco. Today, electricity is supplied to the entire country from here. Due to the growth of industries here, when new employment opportunities were created, people from different parts of the country started coming here. Today, people of Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Bengal, Maharashtra and South India live together in Korba. For this reason, Korba is also called ‘Mini India’.
