IAS Story: Neha Banerjee, an IAS officer of Bengal cadre, is an example for UPSC Espire. She did BTech from IIT Kharagpur in 2018 and became a topper in UPSC CSE 2019. This was his first attempt. There was a lot of hard work and right strategy behind his magnificent success. He has written a blog and told about some important books.

Neha Banerjee, IAS officer of Bengal cadre, is an example for UPSC Aspirant. He cracked UPSC in the first attempt after doing BTech from IIT Kharagpur. She was the topper of UPSC CSE 2019. He has written a blog very beautifully about his journey to become his IAS.

Neha remembers one evening of Delhi Metro in her blog. When he saw a girl reading the IAS test series, I realized that I should also take this exam. After this, Neha decided to prepare for UPSC Civil Services Examination by herself without coaching. Kolkata -born Neha says that she has distanced her social life. WhatsApp focused on the target by removing Facebook and achieved 20th rank in CSE 2019.

Neha Banerjee has written in detail in her blog on making GS note, her source and revision strategy. Neha writes that she adopted a layered approach to prepare for GS in Prelims and Mains. Tried to see the four GS paper and the Reference Coke of the prelims as a unit. This approach was followed from May 2018 to February 2019.

Neha prepared the GS in two phases. He named Phase-1 as Building Blocks. In this, he read basic books on Geography, Environment, History, Polity, Economy, Science and Tech, Sociology etc. For geography, he read NCERT books of 11th-12th. To strengthen the foundation of Environment subject, Shankar read the current affairs of IAS, NCRT Biology (12-Ecology Unit), PMF IAS, Vision. Whereas, for the economy, NCERT 12th macroiconomics, Shriram IAS notes, budget, economic survey, Earthpaidia, Vikas Pedia read. Read NCERT books from class 6 to 10 for science and Monthly magazine of Insight on India for Current Affairs.

He named the second phase of GS preparation as structure of the foundation. In this, he revised the studies done in Phase-1. When he prepared this with a job, he did it on revision weekends. But some lecture and books were also helped in this phase. Listen to the lectures of Mrinal Sir for Economics. GC Leong’s book for geography read physical geography. For history, Neeta Singhania’s notes, Shekhar Bandopadhyay read the book Plassey to participation.
