Women IAS officer Dr. V.S.Allu Varshini is the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Telangana cadre. She is currently working as Secretary, Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutes Society (TGSWREIS). Varshini was born in Polachi in Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu. His father’s dream was to build a school where every child got good education, so he started a Shivalik Matriculation School, which is now 40 years old. In an interview, Varshini told that she was a little mischievous in childhood. Friends used to leave studies and play to play, but there was a passion to do something big in the mind. His cousin, who was a gynecologist, was his role model. She wanted to become a doctor after seeing her car and respect. Initially she used to think that she would live a simple life by marrying, but luck had thought something else.

BDS chosen if not MBBS

Varshini did not get a seat in MBBS and was against paying a hefty fee of her father management quota, then she enrolled in BDS (Dotters of Deoth) at Meenakshi Ammal Dental College, Chennai. He took over as Director at the Indian Institute of Health and Family Welfare and chose the path of social service.

What is the whole matter?

Last week, an audio clip of this female IAS spread like a fire on social media, in which the IAS officer was instructing the principals of separate Varshini Gurukul schools that children should clean their hostel rooms and toilets. These schools are mostly for Dalit and economically weaker children, who get free education and hostel facilities from the government.
Varshini said that these children come from poor families, so they should learn to take care of themselves. In this audio, she is saying that if these children have to make bread, they will make the room clean. What’s wrong with cleaning the toilet? This is part of life skills.
But this thing went to many people exasperated. Opposition leaders and social activists called it discrimination and caste comments against Dalit children. #Lenganagurukul started trending on social media platform x and people are calling it anti-Dalit thinking of the government.

Demand to dismiss IAS

Dr. RS Praveen Kumar, leader of BRS (Bharat Rashtra Samithi) and former TGSWRES Secretary Dr. R.S. Praveen Kumar strongly condemned this statement. He taunted and asked if Telangana CM Revanth Reddy makes his children clean school toilets? If not, then why only Dalit children? Praveen demanded the dismissal of the separate year and said that this order is only a conspiracy to degrade Dalit children. These IAS officers are promoting casteist thinking by taking excuses of ‘Holistic Education’. BRS’s MLC Katwakuntala Kavita also took a dig at the government. He said that Gurukul schools were built so that Dalit and poor children could avoid discrimination of caste and class, but now where is the justice of these children to clean the toilet? Kavita also revealed that during the BRS government, every Gurukul school used to get Rs 40,000 a month for the cleaning staff, but the Congress government closed this fund. He claimed that the posts of assistant caretaker were also abolished in 240 schools, due to which children have to work like cleaning toilets and handling kitchens.

IAS officer gave his clarification

As the controversy increased, IAS officer Dr. Algu Varshini released another audio message, in which he gave his clarification. He said that my words are being distracted. My aim was to make children self -sufficient, not insulting them. They argued that children of our schools come from very poor backgrounds. Their annual family income does not exceed 2 lakhs. It is necessary to teach them life skills. In foreign countries, children clean their rooms and toilets themselves. This is not a shame, but part of the holistic development. I never talked about lack of staff. There are cleaning workers in our schools. This was just to make children responsible.
Varshini also said that politics is being done by editing her 2.5 hour conversation in a 4 -minute clip. He citing Gandhi and Ambedkar said, “It was my aim to promote the dignity of cleanliness and hard work.

SC commission strict attitude

The National Scheduled Castes Commission took the matter seriously. In the notice issued on 31 May 2025, the Commission asked Chief Secretary K.Rakrishna Rao and DGP Dr. Jitendra what action was taken on the IAS officer’s statement? Commission director G. Sunil Kumar Babu warned that if the reply is not received in 15 days, summons can be issued under Article 338 of the Constitution. The Commission says that this statement can be derogatory against Dalit children and violates the rights of children.
