Crete was the canvas of Hyundai’s sales graphics for a long time. This SUV of the C segment was the favorite among SUV buyers in India and has even sailed many times the best -selling SUV (in all sizes and segments). Currently in its second generation avatar, Hyundai is developing a third generation model to be launched in 2027.
This new generation of Crete is under development and is internally in SX3 code. According to reports, this model will be provided with a hybrid engine, which could emerge as a key USP when launched in the country. Let’s take a closer look at this relationship and possible results.
Hyundai Crete Hybrid
The 2nd generation version of Hyundai Crete was launched in January 2024 and the company has already started the development of a new generation of the best -selling compact SUV of India. It is assumed that the time launch sequence is some time in 2027, which could also be extended to the beginning of 2028.
Internally in SX3 code, the main takeaway of third generation Crete is that it will be the first compact Hyundai hybrid SUV in India. This could be the same hybrid engine that should debut with 2nd generation Kia Selos. The test of this vehicle has already started and there have been many sightings of test mules in India and abroad.

This new hybrid engine of the Hyundai group is a self-gradant hybrid configuration which is commonly called strong hybrid, based on the Na Na Na Na 4-cylinder 1.5-liter engine. It is likely that this configuration will consist of an electric motor to provide assistance to the torque and probably acts as an appetizer and generator.
There will be a small battery pack that stores the recovered energy and includes a small EV range at low speeds. Generally, the mileage figures (fuel efficiency) will be quite high. You can expect an increase of about 10% of the fuel efficiency in the city’s driving conditions and an increase of 5% of about 5% of the driving conditions on the highway. Hyundai’s numbers could be higher.
The other projects of Hyundai
This will be the fourth propulsion option for Hyundai Crete after the 1.5 -liter engines of 1.5 -liter Na petrol, 1.5 -liter turbo petrol and a 1.5 -liter turbo diesel). This new hybrid engine will debut with the new medium -sized SUV of Hyundai which will be positioned above Alcazar and under Tucson.
The company has even planned to launch a lifting for Crete Electric, which could also leave the pipeline in the same period. When he was launched, Hyundai Creta Hybrid will mainly compete Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and the imminent Renault Duster and his hybrid counterpart.
