Medical college is real or fake?

Check National Medical Commission (NMC) website

The National Medical Commission (NMC), who was earlier the Medical Council of India (MCI), is the most reliable source to confirm the validity of the Medical College in India. NMC releases the list of all recognized medical colleges on its official website (NMC.ORG.IN).

How to check:
1- visit the NMC website and visit the ‘List of Recognized Medical College’ or ‘Undergraduate/Postgraduate Courses’ section.

2- Verify the college name, location and course (MBBS, MD, MS etc.).

3- Check the college recognition period and number of seats. If the medical college is not in the list, then it can be suspicious.

Example: BJ Medical College is recognized by Ahmedabad NMC and affiliated to Gujarat University.

Verify the university’s account

Valid medical colleges are affiliated to a recognized university. The college website or NMC list is named the concerned university.

How to check:
1- See the name of the university on the official website of the college.

2- Confirm the affiliation of the college on the university website.

3- Check the university recognition on the University Grants Commission (UGC) website (UgC.AC.IN).

Example: BJ Medical College is affiliated to Gujarat University, which is recognized by UGC.

Check NEET counseling process

Admission in MBBS, BDS and other medical courses in India is only through NEET UG/PG/SS score and counseling. Those who conduct this counseling of the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) or the State Counseling Authority.

How to do:

1- See the list of college on MCC website (mxnic.in) or state counseling website (eg, acpugmec.guj.nic.in in Gujarat).

2- If the medical college is not included in counseling then it can be fake.

3- Fake colleges often guarantee admission without NEET, which is illegal.

Example: MBBS admission in BJ Medical College is on the basis of NEET UG score and Gujarat NEET counseling.

Check college website and infrastructure

There is an official website of a valid medical college, which contains information about courses, departments, fees and facilities.

How to check:
1- Check the authenticity of information by visiting the college website (eg, bjmcabd.edu.in).

2- Go to college address or see whether there is actually a medical college and affiliated hospital.

3- See reviews and ranking (eg, Nirf).

Example: BJ Medical College is ranked 50 in Nirf 2023. The websites of fake colleges are often incomplete or unclear.

Check Hospital and Faculty

Valid medical colleges have a hostel and qualified faculty affiliated by NMC.

How to check:

1- Check the affiliated hospital (eg, Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad of BJ Medical College).

2- See the recognition and bed capacity of the hospital on the NMC website.

3- Confirm NMC registration by checking the list of faculty on the college website.

4- Fake colleges often have insufficient infrastructure and unqualified staff.

Students reviews will work

Reviews of students and X students of real colleges are available online.

How to do:
1- Read reviews on platforms like Shiksha.com, CAREERS360 or JustDial. BJ Medical College has received 4.8/5 ratings.

2- Contact the college X students on Linkedin.

3- Check posts related to college on social media like X. But take precautions because they are not always reliable.

1- Caution with fake promises: The colleges claiming admission in less marks without NEET can be fake.

2- Do not trust agents: Many fake agents give wrong information for benefits.

3- Document Verification: Before admission, check the letterhead, receipt and document of the college.
