Even expert browlers are discovered, they care to be attacked. Dear Marie Choljian, a projectta of Hollywood stunts, often wonders how it would react and knows Jujitsu. And Kickboxing. And judo. “When I’m out, I think of this stuff,” he says. “A, for my work, and B, because I want to keep me safe.”
For his latest film, John Wick’s spin -off DancerCholjian had to fight as someone who was trained to kill from childhood: it was the double acrobatics for Eva (played by Ana de Armas), a killer who is trying to avenge the death of his father. Cue scenes involving shootings, hand -to -hand fights and even a battle of flamethrower. The film also asked De Armas and Choljian, both about 5’6 “, to go on tiptoe with John Wick himself, played by Keanu Reeves 6 feet.
The choreographer fights between the two, therefore, proved to be an expanded version of what anyone could do in front of someone bigger or stronger. “What was fun for the film was thinking:” How would I win? “Says Choljian.” We wanted to make it as real as possible, because the reality is that if I am fighting a giant man, I will not be able to hit him in the face and win. “
But what about the rest of us, people who are not trained in combat? Wired asked Choljian some suggestions on what the average person could do to defend himself in a hand -to -hand fight that cannot escape.
Leave to fall on your butt (seriously)
It might seem ridiculous, but falling immediately can launch your attacker out of guard. “If someone is fighting you, and suddenly you sit on the ground,” he says, “will they be like,” What the fuck? “” He recommends a favorite move by his training of Jiujitsu: Flop down fast, right at their feet; Hook your hands behind the ankles, rock slightly back and use both feet to kick them on the hip bones, knocking them on. You can also simply pull your ankles towards you to overturn them; But if you can kick, your possibilities to break them down considerably.
Climb to the top
If you are able to wipe out your attacker, I hope they hit the head along the descent. Use that moment to climb them above them, then put on work, beating them with your elbows. (In a fight against someone much bigger than you, your smaller fists will not be as effective.)
Death of a thousand cuts (or scratches or anything else)
In the end, you are trying to wear your attacker until you can escape or the help arrives or, ideally, they give up. Choljian says he uses any possible tactic. Discover them in the eyes, scratch them in the face, knee them to the groin. “One of my favorites is the fish hook,” he says, demonstrating by pulling the side of the mouth with the finger. “Everything that could really start beating them.”
Use the legs
If falling on the ass does not get the results you wanted, you have other options. If you are stuck on a high surface like a table, as Eva does DancerYou can use the leverage and closeness of your attacker to your advantage. Port them in what the world of stuntman calls a “triangle”. Know the move; You have probably already seen it in the movies. To perform, lift the hips, wrap a leg behind the neck of the person, then wrap the other leg around it, blocking the knee around the ankle. Then squeeze. “So his head is among my legs, suffocating him,” says Choljian.
Whatever can be a weapon if you keep it well
During each fight, always look for tools that can help you. The cable on an iron curlycapelli? This will do this. A candlestick? Why not? Worked in Trace. “If I’m in a bar and I don’t trust a situation, the first thing I probably grab is a bottle,” says Choljian.
If everything else fails, choose the groin
It is the only move that Choljian says it is his point of reference when dealing with the biggest and strongest guys: you kick them in the walnuts. “It’s a cliché, but do you know what? It works.”
