Hermes will open his 26th site of leather articles in Charleville-Mezieres in 2027, using 250 craftsmen. It is the third site of Ardenne’s Hub, supported by École Hermès des Savoir-Faire. Built in a sustainable way on a historical site, the structure of 5,800 m² will present solar, eco-material panels and promote the artisanal legacy, craft training and access to sustainable transport.
The proximity of the three Ardenne producers promotes the learning of Hermes’ unique experience and the transmission between the craftsmen of the culture of the house and the gestures of the processing of the skin and the deckchair Mettier, said Hermes on his website.
The architectural project incorporates the conservation and conversion of the Deville Brownfield site, an emblematic industrial position in the capital of the Ardenne, thus preserving its manufacturing inheritance, which is engraved in the collective memory. The site is located in the historic center of the city, a few minutes from the station, allowing artisans to move using sustainable transport. Designed by Collefy & Associations – the architects behind the Marochinerie de la Sormonne – Future production will include three main sections. The original buildings, with their surprising shots, will host the administrative offices and the cafeteria, while the extension will be dedicated to the work of the table, cuts and seams, as well as the logistical operations of the site. These two buildings will be connected by a large entrance hall, which will serve as a common hub and crossing inside the production. The entire complex will cover a total area of about 5,800 m².
The extension is north-south oriented to bring natural light into the seminars. Hermès is working with local businesses in the construction project and is using insulating materials such as wooden frame, straw isolation and the natural rendering of the earth and the walls of external bricks. The positive energy building will be equipped with almost 1,400 m² of solar panels and will be connected to the district heating network, which is powered by renewable energy and therefore will reach the E4C2 certification.
