The Prevention of Public Gambling Act, 2025 gives exemption to “Skills Games”, but it does not clearly include fantasy games or opinion trading. This has created a situation of legal uncertainty.
How much punishment provision
The Act, especially in sports, strict steps have been taken to deal with match fixing and spot fixing. There is a minimum sentence of 3 years, which can be increased to 5 years. There is also a fine, which starts from Rs 5 lakh. Not only this, those who commit crime can be jailed for up to 7 years. In the Act of Haryana, betting is roughly defined as oral, written or contained, any compromise. A compromise that is based on the results of uncertain events and where predictions cause financial or physical loss when failure fails. Opinion trading apps are also under its purview.
