Student Fellowship News: The Kerala High Court has ordered Shri Shankaracharya Sanskrit University, Kaladi to repay the pending fellowship of a research scholar within a month. The court has clearly stated that if this payment is not made on time, then the salary of the Vice Chancellor and Registrar of the university will be stopped.

This order is this order Justice D.K. Singh’s bench gave the research student of Malayalam subject to hearing the petition of Adarsh E (Adi). Adarsh has also received the Kerala Sahitya Academy Award 2023 for his book ‘Peenappan’. Adarsh was given a research fellowship for PhD, but he says that the amount has not been given since January 2025. However, after the protest, he got some amount of last year.

When the lawyer on behalf of the university in the court argued that the institution was struggling with financial crisis, so the payment could not be made, the court rejected it. According to a TOI report, the court said that the government has already given an amount of Rs 2.62 crore to the university, so the excuse of financial problem is not rational.

The court clarified that when the Vice Chancellor is getting regular salary, why the student is not being given fellowships. After this, the court directed the university to give the arrears of fellowship immediately and ensure regular payment of fellowship from further. Until this happens, the salary of the Vice Chancellor and Registrar will be stopped.

Adarsh says that this decision will provide relief to all those students who were worried about not getting fellowships on time. I hope that the rest of the universities will also take lessons from this and respect the rights of the students.
