Why did NCTE take such a big step?
NCTE started the quality check of the quality of teacher training institutes under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. During this period, about 3000 institutes came under suspicion. Performance appraisal reports (Pars) of 2021-22 and 2022-23 were sought from them. Despite more than four months, frequent emails and show cause notices, 2224 institutions did not respond. Therefore, NCTE canceled their recognition. Some more institutions are under investigation and it is believed that the recognition of a total of 2700 to 3000 institutions can be canceled.
Fake Teacher Training Institutes: Which institutions took action?
Most of the institutions that canceled the recognition were running on dummy or paper. Many of them had got fake registration. Students were registered in these institutions, but there was no class nor infrastructure. There were also no teaching professors or staff. Some institutes were doing business of selling degrees only. NCTE showed strictness after such complaints and brought out their truth through the performance appraisal report.
How many institutions of which region?
NCTE has canceled the recognition of institutions in different fields, in which 872 institutes of South Region,
686 institutes of West Region, 637 Institutes of North Region, 29 institutes of East Region include. The entire list will be uploaded on NCTE website NCTE.Gov.in by 12 June 2025.
What to do students and parents?
NCTE has warned that before taking admission in such institutions, check the list on the website. Many institutions are running on paper, whose degree can be useless. Especially take precautions in the admission season, so that your money and time are not wasted. There will be complete information about recognized and canceled institutions on the website. If you are thinking of enrolling in teaching course, then go to NCTE’s website NCTE.Gov.in and check the list of recognized institutions. After 12 June 2025, complete information will be uploaded on the website. Avoid the institute, whose infrastructure or teaching staff is suspected.
Roll of national education policy

There are 17 lakh passes every year
Every year 7 lakh new teachers are required in the country, but every year 17 lakh teachers are coming out from existing institutions. NCTE says that more quality matters matters. Therefore, institutions will have to provide basic facilities and quality teaching. 2026 will start new teaching courses, which will be based on practical and best practice. Institutions are being monitored by taking degrees sitting home or promoting dummy students.
What will happen next?
Now the information of canceled institutions will be given through gazette notifications for the common people. The institutions which have submitted pars are also being investigated. Instructions will be given for improvement on getting deficiencies. From 2026 new regulations and courses will be implemented, which will improve the teacher education.

This move of NCTE will stop the business of dummy institutions. Experts believe that teacher education is the backbone of the country’s education system. If there is a decrease in the training of teachers, then it will affect schools and students. Therefore, it was necessary to take strict steps to prepare quality teachers.

This decision of NCTE is a big step towards improving the teacher education. Dummy colleges will be curbed due to cancellation of the recognition of 2224 institutions. Students and parents are advised to see the list on the website of NCTE before taking admission, so that the future is safe.
