Delhi university, du news: There was a lot of uproar in the law faculty of Delhi University. Due to low attendance here, hundreds of students did not get the admit card for term-end exam. This incident not only delayed the exam, but also increased the tension between the university administration and the students.
Controversy over low attendance and admit card
The issue of attendance before the term-end exam in the law faculty is in the discussion. This time also about 300 students of the three Law Centers (Campus Law Center, Law Center-I and Law Center-II) were not given the admit card due to not completing the necessary attendance. According to CBSE rules, at least 75% attendance is necessary for students to sit in the exam. The students who were less attendant were stopped from the exam, which provoked their anger.
Demolition by entering the department
On Monday night, some angry students entered the Examination Department and vandalized the situation. The situation worsened on Tuesday morning, when the protesting students locked the main exam room and some also entered the Dean’s office. Due to this uproar, Tuesday’s first exam, which was to start at 9:30 am, started about two hours late at 11:30. The university administration finally had to intervene and the exam was started by breaking the lock.
Students will get a chance
After the uproar, Dean Professor Anju Wali Tiku of Law Faculty issued a statement. He said that students who have been stopped due to low attendance are being allowed to sit temporarily in May-June 2025’s LLB II/IV/VI Term Exam. However, this decision will depend on the results of the inquiry committee. A senior officer said that the university is investigating the matter and the process of not giving the admit card will be kept completely transparent.
ABVP and NSUI also jumped
Student politics also appeared in this dispute. Many members of student groups like ABVP and NSUI also participated in this protest. Both groups demanded a concession from the university administration. Student leaders said that flexibility should be made in implementing attendance rules.
This has happened before
This is not new. Last year too, due to low attendance in the law faculty, the exams of LLB’s second, fourth and six semester were postponed. The exams were to be held from July 4 to July 26, but they had to postpon the students after demanding the protest and concession of the students. This time too, the students reiterated the same demand that the attendance rules should be relaxed.
What will happen next?
This incident has once again questioned the attendance rules of Delhi University and their strictness. Students believe that along with attendance, their academic performance should also be taken into consideration. On the other hand, the administration says that the rules are equal for all and attendance is part of discipline. The decision of the inquiry committee will be important in this matter, because it will decide whether the students will be allowed permanently to give exams permanently.
