

Retail sales of cars in Indian markets witnessed a serious decline of Yoy and mom in May 2025 with a adverse demand observed in the northern states due to border tensions
The month of May 2025 showed modest growth in the automotive sector. Total retail sales, in all segments, recorded 5% growth on an annual basis. As reported by Fada (Federation of the Association of automotive dealers), the 2W segment recorded 7.3% growth while 3W sales increased by 6.2%. Tractors also saw an increase in the demand of 2.7%. However, it was the PV and CV sectors that suffered a drop of 3.1% and 3.7% respectively.
Auto retail sales May 2025
There have been a total of 3,02,214 units sold in this segment last month. It was a drop in the volume of 9,694 units compared to the sales of unit of 3.11,908 of May 2024. It was also a drop in the mother of 3.49,939 units sold in April 2025.
Numerous main OEMs have undergone a drop in sales. Maruti Suzuki has continued to remain the leading car brand of the country in wholesale and retail sales. Retail sales dropped to 1,16,899 units last month from 1.23,295 unitary sales of May 2024 taking its market share to 38.68% from 39.53% in May 2024.
At n. 2 was Mahindra with 43,560 unit sales, a significant growth of Yoy from 34,517 units sold in May 2024. The market share improved 14.41% from 11.07%. Hyundai and Tata engines have followed narrow sales figures. The sales of Hyundai stood at 38,189 units while significantly lower yoy sales than 45,503 units sold in May 2024.



Tata Motors also underwent a decrease in Yoy with 36,669 units sold last month, a drop in volume of 5,663 units compared to 42,332 unitary sales of May 2024. Toyota has bagged a position n. 5 In this list with 22,031 unitary sales, a growth marked with a growth marked over 19,344 units sold in May 2024. The era improved too 7.29% from 6.20%. Kia India saw its sales decrease to 16,810 units of 19,394 YOY units.

Mercedes, BMW Sales – May 2025
In the luxury segment, Mercedes Benz has seen a better demand for 1,335 units in May 2025 out of 1,256 unitary sales of May 2024. BMW sales grew by 16 units at 1,045 units on a basic basis with both car manufacturers who witnessed a marginal increase in market actions.
It was followed by Force Motors with 602 units sold, down by 735 units on a Yoy basis, while by -detailed sales of Byds have clearly improved to 494 units in the last month from 177 sales of units in the same month last year. Citroen sales decreased to 398 units while Jaguar’s sales stood at 373 units, a form of marginal improvement 362 units sold in May 2024. Jeep sales also decreased to 270 units from 368 Yoy units while there were others in this segment that added 2,159 in detail units of total cars, in decrease from 1,443 unit of May 2024.
