Apple is pushing the IA more than its products, but there is still no avant -garde model

Apple has continued its slow and stable approach to integrate artificial intelligence into devices such as iPhone, Mac and Apple Watch Monday, announcing a series of new features and updates at the WWDC. The company also previewed the framework of the foundation models, a way for developers to write code that draws on Apple’s models.

Among the ads of Ai most intense at the event there was live translation, a function that translates telephone calls and facetime from one language to another in real time. Apple also showed a training friend, a vocal helper based on artificial intelligence designed to provide words of encouragement and useful updates during exercise. “This is your second heat this week,” Buddy said to a jogging woman in a demo video. “You’re crushing him.”

Apple also announced an update to Visual Intelligence, a tool that uses to interpret the world through the camera of a device. The new version can also look at the screen to do things like identifying a product or summarizing a web page. Apple showed updates to Genmoji and Image Playground, two tools that generate stylized images with AI. And he showed the ways of using artificial intelligence to automate activities, generate text, summarize and -mail, edit photos and find video clips.

The incremental announcements have done very little to dissipate the idea that Apple is playing to recover the IA. The company still does not have a model capable of competing with the best offers of Openai, Meta or Google, and continues to deliver some demanding questions to Chatgpt.

Some analysts suggest that Apple’s most incremental approach to AI development is justified.

“The jury is still outside the fact that users are gravitating towards a particular phone for guided features by the AI”, says Paolo Pescatore, a PP Foresight analyst. “Apple must find the good balance of bringing something fresh and not frustrating his faithful users of users,” adds Pescatore. “It is reduced to the bottom line and if the IA is guiding any increase in revenue.”

Francisco Jeronimo, IDC analyst, says that Apple that makes his models accessible to developers is important because of the vast scope of the company with programmers. “[It] Apple approaches the type of artificial intelligence tools that competitors such as Openii, Google and Meta have been offering for some time, “said Jeronimo in a note.

Apple’s artificial intelligence models, although they are not the most capable, are performed on a personal device, which means that they work without a network connection and do not invent the commissions that derive from accessing the models from Openai and others. The company also makes a way for developers to use cloud models that keep private data safe through what it calls a private calculation.

But Apple may need to take giant steps with its use of the AI in the future, given that its competitors are exploring the way technology could reinvent personal computing.

Both Google and Openai have shown futuristic artificial intelligence helpers who can speak in real time and see the world through the camera of a device. Last month Openai announced that he would acquire a company started by Apple’s legendary designer, Jony Ive, in order to develop new types of AI infused hardware.
