According to data from commercially available customs, during March to May, Foxconn has exported iPhones worth about $ 3.2 billion (about Rs 27,547 crore) from India. About 97 percent of this iPhones have been sent to the US. Trump has reported that a 55 percent tariff will be imposed on China. In comparison, there is a possibility of imposing less tariffs on exports from India. Last month, Trump expressed displeasure over the Apple’s plan to increase the manufacturing of the iPhone in India. Trump had asked Apple’s Chief Executive Officer, Tim Cook to increase the manufacture of iPhone in the US.
Apple smartphones do not have manufacturing in America. However, the company has promised more workers hiring more workers in the US and an investment of about $ 500 billion in the next four years. Manufacturing iPhones in the US will be difficult for Apple. Supply chains and skilled labor for iPhones have been present in China for the past several years. In recent years, Apple has tried to strengthen its manufacturing ecosystem in India.
